4th August 2009 - HR Team Appointment

APHRS are delighted to announce that Susie Page has joined the HR team as a Senior Consultant.

Commenting on the appointment, Kevin Dougall said “Susie has a wealth of knowledge and experience around HR, gained in blue chip companies such as Cable & Wireless. Susie’s appointment is an exciting step forward for us as we continue to grow this part of our business.”

4th August 2009 - Access to the Professions and Social Mobility

Following the recent publication of the Government’s report on access to the professions and social mobility, UK Managing Director Kevin Dougall was asked to write an article on the subject for The Actuary magazine.

The main theme of Dougall’s article is that the Government has got it wrong; when it accuses the professions of limiting social mobility by only allowing access to the well connected offspring of well to do middle class families. “It is a well known, and documented, fact that social mobility is enhanced by good primary and secondary education systems. It appears to be no coincidence that there has been a reduction in social mobility as successive governments have systematically dismantled what was a World class education system, and have tried to replace it with a system that simply does not work.”

Dougall feels very strongly about the subject and has set out to do something about it by setting up a company, Tom Gibson UK, that will advise young people on their career and also help them to gain knowledge and experience, not taught in main stream education, that will allow them to fulfil their true potential.

APHRS Hosts Industry Breakfast

On Monday 15 June, AP Human Resource Solutions played host to a number of key figures from the construction and property industries. The meeting was held at the prestigious Royal Berkshire Hotel in Ascot, on the eve of Royal Ascot.

Over breakfast, the attendees discussed a wide range of issues facing the two industries. Almost inevitably there was also some discussion about horse racing; but little by way of identifying certain winners.

Kevin Dougall, Managing Director of APHRS, commented “It was nice to be able to get so many like-minded people around the table and to engage in well informed discussion about matters that are currently of particular interest and concern to these industry leaders. As a business, through listening to what people need, we will be better positioned and better able to deliver effective solutions that people actually want”.

 

Reward in a Recession

APHRS has been commissioned to write a report on “reward in a recession”. The client, who wish to remain anonymous, has sought the help and advice of APHRS’s Human Resources division to tackle what is a wide spread problem for many businesses.

The commission came off the back of a magazine article on the subject, written by Kevin Dougall. The article will also be published on the www.changeboard.com web site.

 

Vail Williams appoint AP HR Solutions to Preferred Supplier List

Leading real estate advisers Vail Williams LLP (www.vailwilliams.com) has appointed AP HR Solutions as a Preferred Supplier.

APHRS will provide recruitment & selection services to Vail Williams.

UK Managing Director learns what it is like to be interviewed

Kevin Dougall, UK Managing Director of AP HR Solutions, has learnt what it is like to face an interview; or as was the case a number of interviews.

Over the last two weeks Kevin has been interviewed for forthcoming articles in “Accounting & Business” magazine, “The Sales Professional” magazine and for web site “thesite.org”. Subjects have ranged across subjects as diverse as morale in the workplace, successful negotiation and time management.

The article that will be featured on www.thesite.org is about Tom Gibson Limited, a soon to be launched company that specialises in identifying, nurturing and developing highly talented people; and then guide them through their careers. It is unique not only in terms of its service offering but also because it identifies talent amongst sixth form pupils.

Commenting on the experience, Kevin said “It has been some time since I was the one being interviewed! It helped to remind me of what it is like to be questioned about my experience and knowledge and it will certainly fine tune my understanding and empathy with candidates who are currently job hunting.”
